Fired Budapest transport chief gets new state post
Former Budapest Transport operator (BKV Zrt.) head Aba Botond, who was fired from his post late last year in the wake of the Combino tram debacle, has been appointed to a new top job by the Economy and Transport Ministry, index.hu reports.
From April 16 Aba will head up a newly created state organization called the Regional Transport Offices (RKI), which will be responsible for keeping tabs on Hungary's public and private passenger transport companies, as well as coordinating their activities and schedules.
The RKI will also be in charge of inviting bids from passenger transport companies for state orders with the aim of minimizing government spending on public transport.
