Fifth Hungarian "Night of Museums" deemed a success
This year's Night of Museums drew an additional 30,000 participants compared to last year, reports napi.hu.
Márta Schneider, state secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture, said 235,000 people visited museums in the nationwide event on June 23.
Schneider said a primary initiative for next year's Museum Night will be to encourage the participation of more museums outside Budapest, and also to revise the schedule of events to alleviate long lines at museums.
Nearly 140 Hungarian museums and other cultural institutions participated in the fifth-annual "Long Night of Museums." The event was started in Berlin on the summer solstice in 1997 as an attempt to raise public engagement with the arts. In Hungary, museums stayed open until 2 a.m. and organized special activities and events for a night of celebrating the arts.
