Two representatives of international football federation FIFA were held hostage at a bar on Szent István körút in the Fifth District Saturday night until they paid a Ft 400,000 bill for drinks. Police said three men accompanied the officials, a Briton and a Luxembourgian, to an ATM, where they handed over the money.

The two reportedly drank only two soft drinks in the Milady Night Club - formerly the Nirvana - but drinks consumed by prostitutes who sat at their table were added to their bill which totalled in excess of Ft 500,000, according to Imre Gulyás of the police organised crime department.

The three men who threatened to beat them unless they paid their bill were arrested on Monday following a complaint.

Nirvana had been owned by László Radnai, who was sentenced to a 12-year prison term in a mafia lawsuit in Kecskemét.

Hungarian FA spokesman Péter Serényi said no one was officially in Hungary from FIFA.
