Renovation of downtown Ferenciek tere will begin in 2012, Fifth District mayor Antal Rogán announced on Wednesday.

He said the interests of pedestrians, cyclists and public transport will be taken into account during the work and during a renovation of Széchenyi tér in 2013.

Each project will cost an estimated Ft 3.5 billion, and EU funds will be sought for 85% of the costs.

The current underpass used by cars on Ferenciek tere will be closed to traffic for good, and later re-opened as part of the pedestrian underpass.
