Men wearing black hoods poured a bucket filled with faeces on theatre director Ferenc Sebo Jr. at the Sirály night spot on Király utca in Budapest's Sixth District on Sunday. They also fired an unidentified substance from water pistols at those leaving the theatrical performance.

During the production the Hungarian national anthem "Himnusz" was re-interpreted, the state news agency MTI said. A far-right website said the play humiliates Hungarians. Extremist blogger Tomcat, who took pictures of the scene, was later detained on suspicion of hooliganism.
