Famed racehorse returns to Hungary as owner jailed
A court in Oradea, Romania on Friday sentenced Slovak Zoltán Mikóczy, owner of the Hungarian racehorse Overdose, to 18 months in prison for stealing goods placed under bankruptcy protection.
His Hungarian associate Sándor Dezs Györke was given a 26-month term for fraudulent bankruptcy and abetting forgery.
The two business partners in an insolvent meat processing plant in Romania had attempted to take €165,000 worth of machinery out of the country with forged documents after their company was declared bankrupt.
Mikóczy's family has paid for the costs of the medical treatment of Overdose in England.
Overdose is again in Hungary, having been flown home from England in great secrecy on the weekend, MTV reported Sunday night. According to some reports the horse was driven to Dunakeszi, north of Budapest, for further treatment, suggesting that there is no money for treating the racehorse now that Mikóczy has been sentenced to jail.
