Extremists will disrupt Saturday events, says Security Office
The National Security Office believes that extremist activists want to disrupt Saturday's railles and commemorations to mark the 50th anniversary of the suppression of the 1956 Uprising. Spokesman Péter Vajda told Klub Rádió that the Office is working closely with the police and will use all possible legal means to prevent any incidents.
Prime Minister's Office leader György Szilvásy said some people associated with far-right groups are preparing to use force to disturb the peace tomorrow. Some of the statements and messages could be "empty threats," he acknowledged, but the authorities will investigate all available information.
Fidesz has not received any signals that extremists are preparing to disrupt the commemorations, said István Simicskó, Christian Democrat chairman of the House national security committee.
Former MIÉP and Jobbik spokesman Előd Novák told Magyar Hírlap that the Young Hungarians Society, of which he is a founder, will protest at the Soviet memorial in Szabadság tér before joining the Fidesz procession from the House of Terror to Astoria. He said it is possible that demonstrators and police will clash again.
