EU commissioner criticizes investigation of Hír TV
A top EU official criticized the Hungarian state's actions against news channel Hír TV, saying the targeting of individual news stations is a violation of basic democratic principles, reports mno.hu.
Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, was asked to address the issue earlier this week by Antonio Tajani, an Italian MEP who is vice president of the center-right European People's Party.
Tajani has called on the Directorate-General in October to bring their attention to the investigations against news channel Hír TV by the Hungarian Media Authority (ORTT).
The investigation was started because the ORTT believes the station's coverage of the assault on the MTV building on September 18-19 was biased.
