Ethnic Hungarians file police report against Slovak politician
The Hungarian Coalition Party in Slovakia yesterday reported right-wing politician Ján Slota to the police for the crime of insulting a nation, based on his many anti-Hungarian statements in recent months. Slota heads the Slovak National Party, a junior governing party, but is not himself in government.
Following eight years of calm, an anti-Hungarian mood is growing in Slovakia, Népszabadság observes, and MPs of the Hungarian party have been receiving insulting letters and messages. Party leader Béla Bugár said Monday that this must end.
