Electricity distribution hikes may raise cable TV tariffs
"Electricity distributor E.On decided at the beginning of the year that it will ask ten times more from cable TV companies for use of its cross-country electricity pylons, but cable firms will only accept a 30% price rise," Hungarian Cable Communication Association chairman Ferenc Kéry announced.
"The price hike could push cable TV subscription prices up by 10%," Kéry explained. "If no agreement can be reached with E.ON, cable companies will turn to Economy Minister János Kóka," he added.
"Cable TV firms won EU subsidies to provide internet access for regions that would otherwise prove unprofitable, but both inflated cable prices and the extra time required for finding technical solutions would render completion of the projects impossible," Kéry concluded.
