Driving penalties to be increased in Hungary next year
A draft has been prepared to increase driving penalties in Hungary from next year. According to a pledge by Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, two motoring offences will be enough for drivers to lose their license.
Until now, the maximum number of penalty points for a single offence was seven. From next year, up to 15 points can be given for drunk driving. Speeding, irregular overtaking and driving through a stop sign can also cost six penalty points. Parking penalties will be worth five points. If someone is caught committing more than one infringements at a time, such as driving through a stop sign without a seat belt while talking on a cell phone, the charge can be up to ten points.
