The driver of the Hungarian bus that suffered a fatal accident on Austria's A4 motorway near Modriach early Monday morning is held responsible for the tragedy. Three people died in the accident, a 38-year-old and a 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man. Four others were seriously injured, and 21 suffered minor injures, writes hirszerzo.hu.

The bus was transporting Hungarian soccer fans who had attended Sunday's AC Milan-AS Roma game in Milan. The trip was organized by the travel agency Cooltura.

The accident happened after the Herzogberg Tunnel. The bus drifted to the stopping lane, hit the concrete fence, overturned into the roadside ditch and slipped 50 meters on its right side before coming to a halt. The driver was questioned by the Unterwald Motorway Inspectorate, where he said the accident was caused by his carelessness. He had glanced at his replacement driver to see whether he had been asleep. The 48-year-old driver, who suffered minor injures in the accident, was released after being questioned, but charges are being pressed against him.

The vehicle was found to be in good working order, the driver had not consumed alcohol, and he rested enough as specified by regulations.

All of the injured passengers are expected to recover.
