Drastic funding cuts for people with disabilities
"People with physical disabilities can expect a bleak year due to the drastic nature of the planned subsidy cuts," officials announced at a conference organised for the International Day of the Disabled on Monday.
The Disabled People Council's president, Lajos Hegedűs, said "such subsidies are to be cut under a government decree which has been in force since December 1. Disabled people received free wheelchairs in the past and could use them for at least five years, but they will now only be able to obtain cheaper and lower-quality Far Eastern plastic wheelchairs from January," he added.
Meanwhile the cabinet announced a Ft 100 billion drive for better wheelchair access into public buildings.
