DNA tests find no evidence of police rape
DNA tests revealed no traces of foreign biological substances on the woman who has accused members of a special police unit of raping her, nor on her dress or on the suspects clothes, Prosecutors Office spokesman Attila Morvai announced on Tuesday.
The woman, identified only as Zsanett E., accused two members of the police's Rebisz unit of raping her on May 4 while three others stood by. All five were released from custody on Monday.
Magyar Hírlap says the DNA results are not vital evidence. Népszabadság says that rape could have been committed without leaving DNA traces.
A forensic doctor who examined the woman said she suffered the injuries on her thigh one or two weeks before May 4.
Zsanett's lawyer Péter Tuza told MTV Monday evening that during a face-to-face meeting between the accuser and accused on Monday, three of the suspects refused to answer questions.
György Magyar, representing one of the suspects, said the prosecutors can decide within one or two weeks whether to press charges or drop proceedings.
If the crime of rape is proven, the rapists could be sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, but if their accuser is lying, then she could be sentenced to five years in prison, Népszava notes.
