District V mayor provided free parking on October 23
Fifth District Mayor Antal Rogán reported on Tuesday 23 October early morning that he would allow residents to park free of charge in a district-owned underground garage for the whole day, writes mno.hu. The initiative was designed to help protect cars from protesters and vandals.
The previous evening, anti-government protesters had clashed with the police, damaging many of the cars parked along the road by hitting them with beer bottles, overturning them and used them as barricades. Locals were urged to take advantage of the free parking to avoid further serious damage. Many insurance policies do not cover cars damaged in rioting.
