Demonstrators bring traffic to crawl in Budapest
A crowd of 200 to 300 anti-government protesters slowed traffic in downtown Budapest Wednesday afternoon, reports index.hu. The protesters are demanding the resignation of the current government, and the right to demonstrate in Kossuth tér, which has been off limits to protests since October 23.
The protest, organized by the Revolutionary National Committee (Forradalmi Nemzeti Bizottmány), started out at the Batthyány Eternal Flame, and moved to Corvin köz and along Múzeum körút, as demonstrators hoped to reach Parliament through Aulich utca.
The majority of the crowd dispersed upon seeing that they were outnumbered by policemen, blocking the procession's way to Kossuth tér. About 30 to 40 protesters, however, made it to the grassy area in front of Parliament, and stood around in small groups while policemen checked their identification cards.
