Demand for new flu vaccine falls sharply in Hungary
Demand for the new flu vaccine in Hungary has fallen sharply as the epidemic appears to have peaked, said business daily Vilaggazdasag on Friday, noting that the state agency in charge of distributing the vaccine has stored only 7,300 ampoules.
Whereas the company which produces the H1N1 vaccine in Hungary, Omnivest, was ready to deliver 2 million ampoules in the past month, in the end the authorities only ordered 670,000 due to falling demand.
The government has altogether ordered 4 million ampoules for high-risk groups since the vaccine became available. So far doctors have issued 3.1 million injections. The remainder is being kept in reserve and will be handed over the distribution agency (EKI) in the case of a second wave of new flu, the paper said.
