Defence minister offers unused weapons to Afghanistan
Afghanistan may have long-unused weapons, ammunition and possibly combat vehicles no longer required by Hungary, Defence Minister Imre Szekeres told his Afghan counterpart in Kabul Wednesday. The two ministers agreed that Hungarian and Afghan troops will engage in joint patrols for greater safety.
Szekeres and chief of staff András Havril visited the Hungarian unit that will take up its reconstruction assignment in the province of Baghlan next month. They agreed with NATO ISAF commander Gen. David Richards that the Hungarian unit will have a direct link to ISAF's Kabul headquarters. ISAF will provide any necessary air support.
Szekeres is slated to meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kunduz.
