Crime eases in Budapest in 2008
The number of car-thefts in Budapest dropped by seven percent to 2,300 in January-June this year, while pickpocket crimes rose 8.2 percent to 2,000 during the same period, police told MTI on Friday.
The number of crimes against property was over 38,000 and burglaries of flats were over 2,300 during the surveyed period, police said.
In the six months of the year, the number of robberies in the capital was 700, three percent lower than the same period of 2007, which was mainly due to precautionary measures, police added.
In all the number of reported crimes in Budapest stood at 18,000 during January-June, 3 percent less compared to the corresponding period in 2007.
