Fighting corruption and counterfeiting are the focus of the 17th Kriminalexpo, a three-day international conference and fair on security and crime prevention which opened in Budapest on Tuesday.

"The event aims to enhance security through dialogue between organisations of justice and state administration, research institutions and civil bodies," public prosecutor Tamas Kovacs said at the opening ceremony.

"The programme includes discussions on the fight against corruption, the counterfeiting of food and medicines, current problems in justice administration, as well as public safety and security," he added.

Presentations in a dedicated section will be held about this year's highlighted topic, the fight against corruption, and special emphasis will be placed on discussing ways to efficiently fight the counterfeiting of food and medicines.

The national police headquarters, the Tax Office, the Justice Ministry, the University of National Defence and several security and information technology companies are represented at the event held at the Europe Congress Centre.
