Congestion charge gains momentum in Budapest

Consultants hired by the city have recommended a Ft 400-800 entry fee for vehicles in downtown Budapest within the Nagykörút (Grand Boulevard) from 2012.

They estimate that such a congestion charge would reduce the number of cars in the downtown area by 60,000-110,000.

The mayor’s staff discussed the proposal yesterday and asked the consultants to file a detailed proposal within six months.
