Chips to be implanted in all dogs
Due to the large number of stray dogs, the ministry of agriculture is proposing implanting identification chips in all of Hungary's two million dogs. Following discussions with animal protection organizations, the regulation may be introduced this year, writes mr1-kossuth.hu, based on a report in Blikk.
Another possible solution is to only make the chips obligatory for newborn dogs, says ministry department leader László Ozsvári. A chip costs between Ft 2,000 and Ft 10,000 (€8 and €40). Owners would be free to choose between different models. In Budapest's District VII, chips have been obligatory for all dogs in the last three years, but all chips, costing Ft 3,000, are financed by the local government.
