Central Europe's largest viaduct opens to traffic
The 14.7-kilometer-long section of the M7 motorway between Zamárdi and Balatonszárszó was opened to normal traffic on Wednesday evening, allowing drivers to cross what is said to be Central Europe's largest viaduct.
The 1,872-meter-long Kőröshegy viaduct contains 16 reinforced-concrete pillars which top out at 88 meters.
Despite the great height of the road, barriers obstruct the views.
The section of the motorway along the south coast of lake Balaton cost Ft 76 billion (roughly €304 million) and took three years.
