Cabinet approves new bill on same-sex partnerships
The cabinet on Wednesday approved a revised bill that would allow formal registration of same-sex partnerships, spokeswoman Bernadett Budai told reporters.
She said the bill offers greater security and more predictable conditions to those who formally register their life partnerships.
The bill would apply rules pertaining to married couples to registered partnerships.
However, it does not authorise adoption by same-sex couples nor the adoption of married names.
The bill takes into account the Constitutional Court ruling of December 2007 which stated that the previous Act authorising same-sex marriages did not provide sufficient protection to the institution of heterosexual marriage.
