Budapesters chafe at high taxi fares
One-third of Budapest residents never take a taxi, while the majority of those using them find fares high, a Szonda-Ipsos survey released on Tuesday showed.
Around 33 percent of 1,300 internet respondents asked in February said they never travel by taxi.
Six in every ten of those using a taxi said fares were high, while 13 percent said fares were too high. Around 25 percent said the prices were fair.
The most frequent taxi users, who would take a cab at least once every three months, are men, aged under 30 with a university degree, the survey said.
Taxi fares in Budapest are made up of 3 different parts: the basic charge (300-400 HUF), a per kilometer charge (240-340 HUF/km) plus a waiting charge.
