Budapest Transport Company accused of "propaganda"

The Urban and Suburban Transport Union (Városi és Elővárosi Közlekedési Egyesület, VEKE) has asked Budapest MP's to refuse the suggestion of BKV and deputy mayor Miklós Hagyó about decreasing service frequency and eliminating services, writes vg.hu.

According to VEKE, the "propaganda material" published on the BKV website on Tuesday to illustrate the lack of passengers in off-peak periods is full of rationalizations, exaggeration and bias.

The 12-minute advertisement claims a number of bus and other lines are used by very few passengers. One of these illustrations shows the empty station of an underground line at 4:26. VEKE points out that the first underground train departs at 4:30, and the station is still closed at 4:26, which is why it is empty in the film. A similar error is when the spot shows the same underground train departing from Vörösmarty tér with only a few passengers, even though the majority of the passengers board trains one stop further at Deák Ferenc tér, writes hirszerzo.hu.

Another explanation for empty buses is that their schedules are clash, and that two or three buses often appear at once following a long wait. This results in the first one being completely full, while those that follow are almost empty.
