BKV CEO Attila Antal offered to step down yesterday, due to poor health. He was rushed to hospital with heart problems earlier this year after a scandal on procuring BKV buses erupted.

The scandal was that Alfa Busz, winner of a contract to provide 84 used buses to the BKV, had had dealings with Antal's son. The Székesfehérvár company put in the only bid, offering to supply the buses for Ft 4 billion.

In addition, Antal had won a BKV contract in a joint bid with Alfa Busz in 2004 and 2006, when he was head of Volán bus company's Nógrád county operations.

Antal was appointed by Budapest city council in late 2006.
