Budapest Transport Company to replace buses with boats
The Budapest Transport Company (BKV) plans to introduce ships to ease traffic in downtown Budapest, writes Népszabadság.
The schedule of the service would be adapted to people's working hours to allow more frequent services to be available in rush hours. The plans make it necessary to buy four new, modern ships with a capacity of hundred seats each, in addition to the four BKV already has.
The docks also will have to be redesigned and refurbished to make the transition between the boats and other means of transport smoother. Docks are currently separated from bus stops by quays and heavy traffic. BKV intends to solve this problem by extending the two main docks at Batthányi tér and Vágóhíd as it believes more small docks would cause delays.
