Budapest teachers go on hunger strike
Several teachers at the Budapest Legyel Gyula Kereskedelmi Szakközépiskola (Gyula Lengyel Vocational Training School of Commerce), as well as parents of students and other sympathizers to their cause are to go on a one-week hunger strike to protest the closure of the institution, reports fn.hu.
Ágnes Pécsi, one of the teachers employed by the school, told state news wire MTI that around 300 people staged a demonstration in front of the building of the Budapest Government Monday morning to protest closing of the country's oldest vocational training institution. Pécsi added that the school operates at full capacity, so they do not understand why the City of Budapest decided to close it in July.
Pécsi said that they would do everything necessary to make the Budapest Government change its decision, which is why 150 teachers, parents, former students and other sympathizers will go on hunger strike until next Monday.
One week from now, they are expecting the members of the education committee of the Budapest Government at the school.
