Budapest residents to face higher heating bills this winter
Based on a September 7 decision by the Budapest Assembly, the price of heating supplied to residential flats will be raised by 8.4% on November 1st, vg.hu reports. This is far below the 18% forecasted by the government after the price hike of natural gas on August 1st.
Heating provider FŐTÁV calculated the new price based on the higher price of gas and also the technological developments of recent years, which have helped the company cut its expenses by 9%. In total, its expenses have grown by 11.2%, which together raises the price of heating by 4.6%. However, since the price hasn't been raised for two years, the company had non energy-related expenses which were added and thus resulted in the 8.4% figure.
Residents of an average, 52-square-meter, 135-cubic-meter apartment will have to pay Ft 10,000 (€36) more - Ft 131,000 (€476) instead of Ft 121,000 (€440) - per year for heating than until now.
