Budapest police officer steals money from crime scene
A police officer identified as Zoltán E. stole Ft 460,000 (€1,850) during the investigation at the scene of a bank robbery in the Széna tér OTP branch on May 4, reports origo.hu. The officer explained his actions with his bad financial situation. He was immediately relieved of his duties.
The officer, an employee of the District II Police, stole the money from the amount police wanted to give to the hostage taker in exchange for the hostages. Nobody noticed the theft at the time, but it was recorded by the bank's surveillance cameras. His colleagues said that they were not aware that he had any serious financial difficulties.
A man tried to rob the Széna tér OTP Bank on Friday, May 4. When police arrived, he took hostages and demanded Ft 5 million and freedom to leave. He was shot by commando officers as the money was handed over.
