Budapest police nab tram-derailing graffiti vandals
Budapest police apprehended four kids who they suspect derailed the 56 tram two weeks ago. Police department chief Ferenc Tóth said that the youths admitted derailing the tram, but because they are between the ages of 14 and 17 years, it is unlikely that they would leave the country, and therefore they did not arrest them, writes index.hu.
The boy who derailed the tram by placing a bundle of newspapers onto the rails said that he just wanted to have fun, and that he is "very sorry" for it. He and his friends also covered the tram with graffiti after the accident.
Many witnesses saw the events, and some even recorded it on video. The BKV observer blog reported on March 22nd that the tram derailers are related to certain graffiti tagger community sites. Police used the information they collected from websites related to those taggers to help identify and locate the suspects.
