Budapest Nyugati station to undergo major changes
Due to the construction of the new government district, the underpass and overpass at Nyugati pályaudvar may be demolished with the smoked glass front to the Skála áruház store also making way for modern developments, writes fn.hu.
There are a number of plans on the table, but no final decision has yet been taken. According to Népszabadság, Podmaniczky utca will be extended, but the former main post office, considered a monument, makes the transformation difficult. According to one plan, the underpass between Skála Metró and Westend would be demolished and replaced by a pedestrian overpass. The smoked glass of the Skála department store would be removed, and the building would be converted to a hotel or office building. Nyugati station itself will also undergo major transformations and even Ferdinánd híd might be demolished.
