Budapest Museum of Fine Arts to host Cezanne exhibition
The Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest will host a large Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) exhibition to open its new underground wing in 2011, the daily Magyar Hirlap said on Friday.
The exhibition, set to open on June 8, will show some 80 works from international collections along with ten pieces from the museum's own collection. The show will cover Cezanne's entire career and will reflect also on the artist's bond to the past of European culture.
"We are seeking to put together those 80 works so that through them we will show all the past periods that Cezanne studied, from the middle ages to the Renaissance and to Delacroix ," exhibition curator Judit Gesko told the paper.
Works planned to be shown include his "The Hanged Man's House" from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, "Montaigne Saint-Victoire" from the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh, as well as two of his early paintings from the museum of Aix-en-Provence, Cezanne's home town, Gesko said.
