The library of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest has been given a 50 volumes of one of the richest collections of engraved portraits, a rarity of great value, reports vg.hu.
The book collection, donated by German research fund Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, was handed to museum manager László Baán by German ambassador Hans Peter Schiff. The publication by the Herzog-Anton Bibliothek is the most complete collection of engraved portraits made between 1500 and 1850 and a basic work of incalculable value. It contains almost 25,000 portraits, including those of members of the Esterházy, Pálffy and Zrínyi families.
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft has donated over 100 valuable books to the library of the Fine Arts Museum in recent years.
