Budapest metro substitution service causing traffic chaos
Népszabadság reports that replacement buses for the eastern section of the M2 metro cannot cope with the volume of passengers along the route. Renovation of M2 stations began on June 8.
Népszabadság writes that the bus turns at Blaha Lujza tér and Örs Vezér tere are causing the most problems. The buses obstruct each other while two or three hundred people are forced to wait in bus stops.
Dávid Vitézy, spokesperson of VEKE claims that the replacement bus service was not appropriately prepared and that this is taking its toll on traffic. Communications Director Miklós Regőczi responded that "this year's preparation was just as carefully planned as before", and that the service company cannot be blamed for the traffic jam in the city.
Vitézy believes that the new administration of BKV was so busy working on organizational reforms that it did not have time to focus on the proper preparation of replacement buses.
