Budapest memorial to 1956 revolution defaced again
An unknown individual poured red paint onto and wrote "Gy. F." (the prime minister's initials) and "red handed" on the memorial to the 1956 revolution located at Budapest's 56-osok tere near the Városliget (City Park).
Budapest Police spokesman László Barta said that proceedings have been started against an unknown perpetrator for vandalism.
The memorial was erected by Hungary's Socialist-led government for the 50th anniversary of the revolution in 2006. It consists of rusted columns at a 56 degree angle that grow taller as they merge together before joining into a shiny peak that "breaks" the ground, symbolizing how strong people can be when they work together.
