Budapest gay bath in Molotov cocktail attack

Four Molotov cocktails were thrown into the Magnum Sauna gay baths in Budapest Thursday night, injuring several people.

It was the second such incident in a week, as a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the Action gay bar on Magyar utca last Friday. The Magnum is located in Józsefváros, the capital’s eighth district.

In both instances, the assailants telephoned the bars shortly before they struck and asked whether anybody was inside.

The far right website kuruc.info had posted a list of gay bars a few days before the first attack.

The attack occurred during the ongoing gay and lesbian festival and two days before Saturday's annual Gay Pride march in Budapest.

Hostile far-right activists attempted to disrupt the event last year, and assaulted a German couple after the march. This year, the right-wing Regime-Changing Forum, which has declared on its website that: "We will not tolerate foreign perverts of whatever colour forcing their alien and sick world onto Hungary," has a permit to march along Andrássy út three hours after the gay parade.
