Budapest Fine Arts Museum plans Japan tour
Budapest's Fine Arts Museum (Szépművészeti Múzeum) and the Vienna Art History Museum (Kunsthistorisches Museum) are preparing for a tour in Japan, the director of the Fine Arts Museum said at a conference of museum leaders in Parliament on Friday. The tour, which is expected to bring high revenues, the two museums will exhibit two dozen works from the golden era of European art, spanning the Renaissance and Baroque periods, at Japan's newest and oldest museums located in Tokyo and Kyoto.
Meanwhile, the European section of the so-called Bizot Group, which includes leaders of the world's largest museums, held a conference in Budapest at the invitation of the Fine Arts Museum. More than 40 leaders of 31 European museums were in attendance, including the Paris Louvre, Musée d,Orsay and Pompidou Center, the London British Museum and Tate, the Berlin Staatliche Museen, the Madrid Prado, the Münich Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, the Florence Soprintendenza Speciale Per II Polo Museale Fiorentino, the Saint Petersburg Hermitage and the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum.
Fine Arts Museum Director László Baán also said that the museums agreed to create a cultural-art history website targeting the 11-16 age group. The aim of the project led by the Louvre is to present Europe's cultural treasures to the young generation in an easy-to-understand way, and in several languages. The Museum of Fine Arts will participate in work on the online portal.
The Bizot Group was founded by Irène Bizot of France 15 years ago. The tasks of the group include establishing common strategies for the leading museums and reinforcing cultural policies of the museums and governments to ensure they correspond to each other. Strategies involving the UNESCO, the international lending traffic of works of art, the purchasing policy of museums, the illegal art market and development of the institutions are all worked out based on proposals by the body. The European museums belonging to the group are visited by a total of 60 million people each year.
