Budapest firefighters were called to an apartment building in District XX early Friday morning after the building exploded, seriously injuring a man inside, reports hirszerzo.hu.

"The person was rescued and taken to the hospital with severe injuries in life-threatening condition," Budapest police spokesman Oszkár Sass told MTI news.

Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of the explosion, which destroyed the building on Kölcsey Street within minutes.

"The cause of the detonation is temporarily unknown but it is certain that other dwellers managed to leave the building before the explosion," the officer on duty at Budapest Fire Department said.
