State railway company MÁV Zrt is planning to open a train station at Ferihegy 1 airport on December 10th. A trip from Nyugati (Western) Railway Station to the terminal that serves budget airlines will cost Ft 180 (€0.66), and MÁV promises that trains will leave Nyugati in intervals less than 30 minutes during peak hours.

Trains on the Budapest - Cegléd - Szolnok route will stop every 30 minutes at the relocated Szemere-telep station. The trip from Nyugati will take 22 minutes. Department Head Árpád Balogh told FigyelőNet that passengers will be able to reach the terminal via a covered overpass and an elevator from the new, 250-meter-long platform.

The trains will contain seven to eight cars and carry up to 2,000 passengers. MÁV will employ more cars if needed, Balogh added.

Meanwhile, there remains no concrete plan as to how passengers arriving at Ferihegy 2 could get to downtown Budapest by train. It will probably take several years until a rail link between Ferihegy 2 and central Budapest is built, Balogh said. He believes the service will probably be operated by a private company. According to predictions, the annual traffic of Ferihegy could reach 12 million passengers by the end of this decade, which would make a fast train service viable as a private enterprise.
