Budapest airport terminal remains closed

Budapest Airport has decided to keep Ferihegy airport terminal 1 closed until an agreement is reached with sporadically striking unions. All flights will go through terminal 2.
In negotiations on Thursday, airport management presented a proposal on a new compensation package with the aim of offsetting a shortfall of wages resulting from changes in work schedules and to help balance wage differences between identical jobs up to certain limits.
Budapest Airport also proposed a system of bonuses that would extend to employees working all shifts. Negotiations will continue at 10 a.m. today.
The European Transport Workers Federation has decided to move the location of its annual convention from London to Budapest in February, in view of the current situation at Ferihegy airport.
Delegates are expected to discuss what individual unions can do against what they describe as the arbitrary acts of multinational companies.
The Unite union of workers at London airports has begun a collection drive to supplement Hungarian strike funds.
