Buda-side embankment to be closed from today
The embankment in Buda will be closed for two months, beginning today, writes fn.hu. Both roads between Bertalan utca and Szent Gellért tér will be closed because of building a collecting main channel and metro constructions works at Szent Gellért tér. Cars will be forced to use Budafoki út and Bartók Béla út.
The chaos will be even greater when the Margit híd closes for renovations. Town sociologist János Kocsis says that it is unreasonable that the city leadership tries to justify that they scheduled many reconstructions for the same time period. He adds that if people cannot reach Budapest because of the chaotic traffic, it will have significant negative economical effects. Kocsis also points out that the city leadership did not designate relief roads, leaving it to the drivers to decide where to bypass the closed roads, so that it will be extremely hard to find one's way this year, due to the multiple closings.
Although the works are expected to end before August 20th, the embankment will be occasionally closed until 2010. A temporary extension was added to Budafoki út to assist with traffic.
