Bomb threat forces evacuation of thousands from mall
Some 3,500 people were forced to evacuate the largest shopping mall in Debrecen, Hungary's second largest city (E) on Monday afternoon, local police told MTI.
A second call shortly afterwards, forced the evacuation of about a hundred people from a major downtown hotel.
No explosive devices were found in either place, police major Katalin Kiss Juhasz said. Both the mall and the hotel were reopened at about 1930 hours local time.
The threats were phoned in from a public booth shortly before 1600 hours local time in what police said was a "young male voice." Since the mall was filled with Christmas shoppers, police called on mall security services to help move the several thousand people.
This was the second bomb threat against the mall since it opened a month ago.
Police are seeking the unidentified caller who will be charged with threats to public safety, Kiss Juhasz said.
