The skin, skull and jawbone of a bear were found on a Romanian bus waiting to enter Hungary at Ártánd on Sunday, reports hirado.hu.

The driver and the passengers of the bus said they had nothing to declare, but the bus was packed full of suitcases and bags, so they were checked. In one of the bags, which none of the passengers claimed as their own, a large animal skin, a skull and a jawbone were discovered. The guide traveling on the bus then admitted that they had been given the bag in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) and received money for taking it to Spain.

An expert of the Hortobágy National Park said that the skin, skull and jawbone belonged to an adult brown bear (Ursus arctos). Proceedings have been started against the guide for damaging the environment.

Within in a week, this has been the second case when a bear skin smuggler was stopped at Ártánd.
