Hungarian police are seeking further witnesses who might have seen French student Ophelie Bretnacher before she disappeared during the small hours of December 4 last year.

Police on Wednesday released surveillance camera footage on the force's website showing several people walking past the student on her way from Madach Square to the Chain Bridge in central Budapest, where she was last seen before 3.30 am.

The search for the missing woman is not part of a criminal investigation, since no evidence of a crime has been found, said police.

A seven-member Hungarian police team investigating the case has questioned about 40 people but has not found any significant clues.

Hungarian Danube river police and the French Rhine River Police Force earlier searched the riverbed with a special, high-performance sonar device but found nothing in connection with her disappearance.

Witnesses can contact the police by email at 02rk@budapest.police.hu or by phoning (00-36) 346-1800/42-115.
