Slovak Police have terminated the investigation against the attackers of a Hungarian girl who was beaten in Nyitra (Nitra), Slovakia, last month, hirszerzo.hu writes.

Today's issue of Slovak tabloid Novy Cas writes that the injuries to the girl may have been older and that her claims of an ethnically motivated attack may be bogus.

According to mno.hu, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and interior minister Robert Kalinák said at a press conference today that the girl had lied about being beaten. The prime minister stressed that his government will continue to fight extremists but also those who harm Slovakia by making up lies.

The interior minister revealed details of the investigation that prove that the girl had faked the attack. Though she had claimed she was assaulted for speaking Hungarian on her mobile phone, the phone did not register any incoming or outgoing calls on that day. In addition, a DNA test proved that the girl mailed her papers and valuables to her own address from nearby Pozsonyeperjes (Jahodná). She had said they were stolen and sent back to her by an unknown person.

The original report in Novy Cas could not give an explanation to why the girl had made up the story, but it did mention that she was taking the Hungarian state examination for the second time on the day of the alleged attack.
