Asian man leads Hungary's tax debtor list
A new list of debtors published by Hungary's national tax office (APEH) reveals that the nation's top tax deadbeat is an Asian national residing in Budapest. Guo Zhang Wei is seventh on the list, which includes both companies and people, and first among individual debtors. He owes the tax office Ft 505 (roughly €2 million) in taxes and an additional Ft 344 million in fines. The second biggest individual debtor is Róbert Horváth, who is listed as living in Túrkeve, and who owes nearly Ft 170 million, followed by Imre Gergely of Dömsöd, who owes Ft 110 million in taxes and nearly Ft 116 million in fines.
On top of the list is a Budapest-based company, ES-TEAM Nagykereskedelmi Kft, which owes nearly Ft 6 billion in taxes and Ft 3.9 billion in fines. Another Budapest-based company, UnionComp Kereskedelmi Kft., which is currently under liquidation, owes over Ft 1 billion in taxes and the same amount in fines. The third company on the list, also from the capital, is COMIMPEX-HUNGARY Kereskedelmi és szolgáltató Kft, which owes Ft 940 million in taxes and Ft 625 million in fines and interest.
The list, which was published at the end of October, contains the names and addresses of individuals who owe over Ft 10 million and other taxpayers - for example, businesses - which owe over Ft 100 million. There are 143 such individuals and institutions on the list representing a total of Ft 31.2 billion in unpaid taxes and Ft 23.9 billion in accumulated fines and interest.
