An alpaca cria recently born at Budapest Zoo can now be seen by the public, the zoo told MTI in a statement on Tuesday.

Its mother gave birth in front of zoo visitors and the female cria managed to stand up shortly after but she was held separately from the other alpacas for a few days.

The mother, named Lola, was also born in Budapest, in January 2008. The father, named Misi, arrived from Stuttgart in May 2008 and is currently 3 years old.

Visitors to the zoo can also see the 8-year-old alpaca grandmother, named Melcsi, in the display for South American species.

The newcomer has not been named yet because zoo staff have not yet been able to decide between Jenny, Mira and Kria.
