Airport trains to start running in September

A train service between Nyugati station and Ferihegy airport will begin operations in September, Economy Minister János Kóka said on Friday. The estimated time of the journey is 15 minutes.

The service, operated by state railway MÁV, is a provisional project until a privately financed service can begin. However, no such project can be launched within the next six months, said Kóka.

A train stop will be built at Ferihegy Terminal I on the present rail track, and an existing station 1.5km away at Szemeretelep will be closed, Kóka added. It is likely that a bus will ferry passengers between the new train stop and Terminal 2 until a permanent rail link is established.

MÁV and the EU will spend a combined Ft 6.5 billion on the project. A one-way ticket might cost Ft 1,300-1,800. Kóka made the trip on a Bombardier "Talent" train.
